S.C. LUKOIL ENERGY & GAS ROMANIA S.R.L. is managing a unique plant in terms of ecology — combined heat and power plant (CHP), located on the territory of the refinery in the south of the country. The heart of the new CHP unit is a steam boiler with the technology of burning petroleum coke by circulating fluidized bed (CFB). This is actually a coal station with an exceptional level of cleanliness at all levels, ranging from fuel supplying and ending with zero mark.
The CFB boiler no.4 permits to burn fuels with a high sulfur content and thus produce thermal energy in compliance with all emission standards adopted in the EU. The process of fuel combustion in a low temperature fluidized bed considerably reduces the formation of NOx, and limestone added to the furnace during combustion binds sulfur. Ash and soot emissions are trapped by cyclones and filters included in the boiler design.
